Very good post. Reminds me of Covey's distinction between efficiency and effectiveness.

By the way, I love your book list and the quotes at the beginning of each post.

I'm reading a book right now that seems to fit with some of your posts and the books on your list. It is called, Love Is The Killer App, by Tim Sanders. I think you'll like it.

That is why I don't hire higenists and other detnists in my practice. I do every procedure from scale and polish to implant surgery by myself. Of course my frinds tell me I am wasitng my time and loosing a lot of money but alghtough they have fancy cars and fast boats I don't think they are very happy. I know my patients and I think they know me so we can both benefit from that.

Hi Dave, it's funny. I once worked with a hygienist who seemed very satisfied with the fact that she could finish cleaning anyone's teeth in 20 mins. Depends on how you define clean and what finished means to you. She may have been efficient, but she sure wasn't effective, for more reasons than just the iffy cleaning.
Thanks for the book recommendation, I'll check it out. I love your blog, I can definitely relate to the Freak Factor.

Dentist, the great thing is that we have choices. You've made a choice that speaks to what is important to you. I'm sure you'll look back over your career some day and be glad that you did it your way.

From a lay person's perspective this is a great post.

We know what our experience is but we don't know what a quality experience is. We depend on our dentist and the staff to do the right thing.

And this is not an uncommon issue in many businesses and organizations. I often see people who are "on the wrong number" with negative results following in due time.

Thanks for pulling back the curtain on what happens in some practices.

Keep creating...a brand worth raving about,
Mike

Thanks Mike, I'm very fortunate to have a boss that understands that speed at all costs doesn't always produce the desired result. I bet you'll look at what goes on in the office at your next dental appointment differently.
